Roth Writing Center
The Roth Writing Center provides one-to-one peer tutoring to help student writers of all abilities during all stages of the writing process. This service is offered free of charge to students.
The Center is staffed by more than two dozen undergraduate writing consultants, from a variety of majors, who are specially trained to assist students with their writing projects. The goal of the Writing Center is to develop not only a student's writing abilities, but also his or her ability to think critically and communicate clearly within an academic discipline.
Drop in or call for appointments
Located in Blaustein 214, the Center is open daily during the week when classes are in session and during exam periods. You can drop by, or call the Writing Center at (860) 439-2173, to make an appointment.
Writing Across the Curriculum Program
The Center also coordinates the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program. At Connecticut College, writing is a crucial part of the learning experience for all students, no matter what course of study they ultimately choose to follow. Our writing courses are designed to integrate the teaching of writing with the teaching of subject matter, and to foster the deep connection between writing and critical thinking. The goal of teaching writing is not merely to "fix" or "polish" student essays, but to produce better writers--writers who can write clear and intelligent prose, who can produce sophisticated and challenging arguments, and who can take part in the larger intellectual "conversation" that the college experience is designed to sustain and promote.
Workshops for Faculty
Workshops such as those offered as part of the on-going series on The Art of Teaching Writing (co-sponsored by the Joy Shechtman Mankoff Center for Teaching and Learning) are designed to support faculty in their commitment to the teaching of writing at the College.
